In less than 100 hours Stepen Elop, Nokia’s CEO for the past 13 months, will get on a stage in London and show off the first smartphones the Finnish handset maker will sell that run Microsoft’s Windows Phone operating system. We expect to see 3 devices at the event; one codenamed Sea Ray that’ll likely end up being called the Nokia 800, another codenamed Sabre that will be a lower end version of the Sea Ray, and a gigantic 4.3 inch beast that’s being called “Ace” that will show up on American shores at some point in 2012. Now the Sea Ray is probably one of the worst kept secrets the wireless industry has ever known. We’d go so far as to say that it’s up there with the Gizmodo iPhone 4 leak. Roughly 4 months ago a 21 minute video hit YouTube that showed Stephen Elop himself unveiling the Sea Ray to Nokia employees at Nokia’s Headquarters in Espoo, Finland. He then invited an employee on stage to show people what Windows Phone is all about.
Over the past few weeks we’ve seen Nokia 800 press shots leak, photo samples from the camera leak, ads that’ll run in the UK leak, and now we’ve got a little video to share, courtesy of My Nokia Blog, of a teaser that’s currently airing on television in Jolly Old England:
There’s not a lot going on there to be honest. It’s something that geeks might pitch a tent over, but most people are just going to wonder if they’re having trouble with the antenna on their roof. We hope that as you’ve been reading our Nokia Windows Phone coverage that you’ve set your expectations for Nokia World accordingly. Besides physical design, Nokia’s Windows Phones are going to be like every other Windows Phone on the market. Same 1.4 GHz processor, same 512 MB of RAM, same everything.
That being said, we know that the mere existence of a Nokia logo on a smartphone will no doubt help Windows Phone gain some much needed market share.
