Nokia E63 caught in the wild

Nokia is preparing to launch yet another QWERTY keyboard equipped smartphone a la E71. Apparently, the model’s name has been set to E63 and from the bare number we conclude its older brother [E71] is a better device. However, that doesn’t mean E63 sucks, quite the contrary.

Here’s what we know, or at least think we know about the E63:

  • GSM/GPRS/EDGE radio as well as UMTS/HSDPA support
  • Bluetooth, WiFi
  • QVGA screen (320×240 pixels)
  • Camera: At least 2 megapixels. No Front Camera.
  • Symbian 9.2 with S60 Feature Pack 1 (like the E71)
  • Standard 3.5 mm audio jack (E71 has a 2.5 mm jack)
  • Thicker than the E71
  • Flashlight function
  • Non-metal construction (unlike the E71)
  • No side buttons
  • Three versions will be available: E63-1 for Europe, E63-2 without a camera and more memory, and E63-3 for the Americas.

There’s certainly a room for a device like the E71 without a camera for government employees and I did wonder when we’ll see it released…
