Samsung Galaxy S II will get Android Ice Cream Sandwich … eventually

If you own a Samsung Galaxy S II, you’re probably pretty happy with your Android superphone but I’m sure you’re wondering when it will get the next version of Android. Well, there’s some good and bad news, as Samsung said Ice Cream Sandwich will be coming to the Galaxy S II but it didn’t lay out a timetable.

“Hi, good news—the Galaxy S II will be receiving ICS, but there are no dates confirmed as yet. We will keep you posted,,” @SamsungUK said in a tweet.

Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich should bring a ton of new features to the platform, including a user interface revamp that starts at the text. We can also look forward to a more unified interface that doesn’t even need physical buttons and there will also be improvements to the camera at the platform level.

You do have to wonder how Samsung will tailor TouchWiz for the new version of Android, as it already does feature some of the new camera improvements and some of the design aesthetics of Ice Cream Sandwich do kind of clash with the overall look and feel of TouchWiz. Oh well, hopefully we won’t have to wait too long to find out.
