Entire song covered using instruments from iPad apps

Most people who have heard of apps such as Apple’s GarageBand or Alchemy Synth praise them for bringing detailed musical instruments to a mobile platform. However, those same people would probably doubt just how useful they can actually be. Well some very clever and talented music enthusiasts put that concept to the test, and proved that there’s a lot of untapped potential worth noticing.

The guys behind the EastMidWestMusic YouTube channel produced a full cover of Jason Derulo’s “It Girl” song using nothing but instruments from iPad apps. While the man in the video is singing (quite well, I might add) into a microphone, a few other people in the background are recording the music using multiple apps. These include Animoog, Rebirth, Alchemy, GarageBand, Magic Fiddle, MadPad, iSynpoly, and Magic Piano. The different sounds and instruments were then compiled to create the full song.

I can’t help but wonder how long it took to make, though I can’t imagine it taking too much longer than regular instruments. All of these apps combined don’t even come close to how much money you’d need to buy just one instrument. The most expensive is Animoog for $29.99. One thing is for sure, though: we’re moving toward a world in which using these types of digital instruments for recording purposes might be the norm.
