Apple gives internship to iOS concept designer Jan-Michael Cart

Jan-Michael Cart is best known around the Internet for working with MacRumors to create a concept design of the iOS Assistant, which would later become Siri on the iPhone 4S. The mockup shown in the photo above turned out to be remarkably accurate. He certainly proves his design skills here. Oh, but don’t take my word for it, Apple just gave him a seven-month internship.

Is it odd that Apple snatched up someone who actually aided in leaking one of their biggest products this year? Yes and no. Yes, simply because of Apple’s well-known reputation as being one of the most secretive companies on the planet, if not the most secretive. No, because the Cupertino-based technology giant previously hired Peter Hajas and Nicholas Allegra, two jailbreak experts. Steve Jobs always did have respect for rebels.

When he’s not envisioning iOS improvements (and interning at Apple) Cart is a student at the University of Georgia — a student that may be on his way to a career earlier than planned. Though Apple didn’t exactly hire Cart just yet. He was only given a temporary internship presumably involving user interface design. While he did create that mockup of Siri, he’s also known for other impressive concept designs for Notification Center, iMessage on Mac OS X Lion, iOS widgets, and more.
