CES 2012: AT&T offering 250mb, 2GB no-contract data plans for Playstation Vita

During today’s AT&T Developer Conference keynote, Sony took center stage for a portion of the keynote to re-introduce the Playstation Vita to the hundreds of developers in attendance. There isn’t a lot we don’t already know about the Playstation Vita, but one thing we learned today was what AT&T will offer in terms of data plans for Sony’s upcoming dedicated handheld gaming device.

When the Playstation Vita is released on February 22, 2012, users who wish to use AT&T’s data network will have one of two choices to make straight from the device. They’ll either need to sign up for a 250mb of data for $14.99, or 2GB for $25 with no annual contract required. The process of signing up to use AT&T’s data network has been streamlined and easy to initiate from the Playstation Vita. Don’t forget the Playstation Vita also has Wi-Fi built into it, so if you absolutely need to game on the go, you should do so at a Starbucks, McDonalds, or at your Grandma’s house.

Sony also noted there are already 100 games in development for the Playstation Vita and we can expect popular franchises such as Assassin’s Creed and Call of Duty to be making their Playstation Vita debut some time down the line. Seeing as one of the main selling points of a Call of Duty game is online multiplayer gaming, you could run up quite a bill if you absolutely need to play online while you’re using AT&T’s 3G network.
