Android 4.0 released for Motorola Xoom tablets

Great news for you Motorola Xoom owners out there. The handset maker has started rolling out Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) updates to both WiFi and LTE versions of the tablet as of yesterday. Everyone knew the Xoom would get the ICS upgrade when Motorola outlined its plan of devices to receive the latest and greatest from Google’s mobile operating system a month ago.

Here’s the catch. There was no mention of when this update was expected to roll out to users, and Motorola themselves claimed that because the Xoom was a “Google Experience Device” it had no idea as to when either.

Well, apparently Moto figured out the kinks and got things moving, here’s an email that was sent out to users:

Thanks for your patience as we’ve waited for this project to begin. Because we are dealing with a Google Experience Device (GED) we have less insight to timing than we would usually have.

However, I’m happy to announce that we will start the update this evening. Because it was delayed a few days, we will also have additional time to test; we will let it run through the weekend.

Did you receive an ICS update for your Xoom, yet?
