I was trying to think the other day of a Multiplayer Mobile Game that I’ve played consistently over an Operator’s wireless (2G or 3G) network – and I couldn’t think of any!
I then tried to think of multiplayer games on Mobile that I’ve played over Bluetooth – and one came to mind immediately – Battleships on the Ericsson T68 / Sony Ericsson T68i!
Battleships was an excellent 2-player game, run over a Bluetooth implementation that I am sure (Sony) Ericsson spent some time getting right – the net result, a classic fun game, with the right dynamics for multiplayer, implemented well – and great fun!
If you had a colleague or a friend with the same device, you could sit near each other (but far enough away to avoid over-the-shoulder cheating!), and plan your attack on each other’s fleet – yes it was simple, it was turn-based, but boy was it fun!
If I remember correctly, there were also a couple of Mini Golf games that had great Bluetooth multiplayer implementations – again, turn-based, but the type of game that lent itself naturally to it!
My question: what’s your fave (local or remote) multiplayer game? Name the device, the game, and whether it was Bluetooth or wireles network – I think I am going to hear more suggestions over Bluetooth than wireless network – because I have not heard any reports that the latency issue (time between game-critical data packets going between devices) over wireless networks being solved to playable satisfaction. Of course I could be wrong – let’s have some comments from the readership – even if you just want to show love for the diminutive little T68(i) 🙂
