We’ve been having a great time at the Dell-sponsored Create.Work.Inspire talking about the intersection of art and technology but one of the main reasons I came here was to get some time with the Dell XPS 13 ultrabook.
While the IntoMobile team is all about the mobile lifestyle, I cannot work on the road on just a tablet and smartphone. Maybe that will change in the near future but I still need the power and keyboard of laptop. That doesn’t mean I want to sacrifice portability or looks, though.
Luckily, the Dell XPS 13 seems to come through on all counts, as it’s a stylish computer that’s light, portable and packed full of power. The brushed aluminum cover will definitely remind you of the devices that comes from Cupetino but Dell has done enough to make the XPS 13 stand out. The bottom and wrist rests feel like they’re made of polycarbonate and it makes for a light (less than three pounds) and good-looking body.
The keyboard is absolutely great. It’s well spaced out, the travel back is amazing and it feels like it can stand up to a pounding. There’s a 13.3-inch bezel-to-bezel display with Gorilla Glass and the power part is not a problem with the second-gen Intel processor inside. You can also look for a camera, Bluetooth, 128 GB and 256 GB SSD models and nearly everything else you’d expect from a device of this class.
Unfortunately, there aren’t enough USB ports for my liking, as you have to deal with two. I would have also loved a built-in card reader too. Still, these are minor complaints.
