Huawei has announced it has shipped over 20 milllon broadband USB dongles! This is on the back of strong growth in this sector of the industry for at least the last 18 months.
If that wasn’t enough, it is predicted that the sector will keep on growing – meaning Huawei (and it’s peers) will keep incrementing shipments YoY (year-on-year) to a supposed 100mn by 2011.
That is a staggering number of devices shippped – but let’s look why…. firstly, the proposition is simple – ‘broadband on the go’. Second, it’s simple to use – plug and play in many cases (if the driver SW is on the stick itself). Thirdly, the pricing model(s) are simple too – either have a monthly contact, or buy the modem & pay as you go credits – either way, you pay to consume data within your limit each month.
Easy, easy, easy….. and for the large part, they do work. Probably the only point of contention is whether you get anything like the speeds the Operators suggest!
Well done to Huawei, and let’s see what the numbers are in a couple of years time!
