New smartphone technology can track your every move

Our biggest fear as being an owner of a smartphone is our privacy and security being compromised. A location company by the name of Navizon, developed a new system called Navizon I.T.S., that tracks visitors in malls, museums, offices, factories, secured areas and all other indoor spaces. Yikes. The point of this software is to examine patterns of foot traffic in public places by way of WiFi; it’s a technology that can tell you if a visitor is still in a store or museum during closing time.

This kind of thing has serious privacy implications, because most of us smartphone users (primarily iPhone users) leave WiFi on by default. To be brief, using system like Navizon can invade any device with an active WiFi radio. I doubt this software will see the light of day in the consumer market, as privacy and security advocates are sure to lose their minds over something like this.

Checkout Navizon CEO and founder Cyril Houri tracking down one of his colleagues at a trade show using something that resembles a first person shooter-esque radar.

Would you have a problem with companies using a tracking software like this? Please tell us in the trusty comment section below.
