Intel-powered Orange Santa Clara launching on May 31st

Orange has started sending out invites for its press event, when it will launch its first Intel-powered Android smartphone – Orange Santa Clara. The event takes place on Thursday, May 31st and the mentioned device already got a page at the carrier’s “coming soon” section.

Thus far Orange-branded phones were low-to-mid end devices, offering decent value for the money to folks on a budget. Will something change with the first Intel-powered smartphone?

It’s hard to tell at the moment and at this point we’re not even sure the Santa Clara will be able to run Android Ice Cream Sandwich — its page at Orange’s website says it comes with Gingerbread, though we hope an update is in works as we speak. Moreover, the same page mentions other specs, including a 4.03-inch screen, 16GB of built-in memory, 8-megapixel rear-facing camera and 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor.

We’ll have all the information within two days and hopefully a review unit soon afterwards. Stay tuned…
