Apple v. Samsung goes to jury as companies fail to agree in last-minute settlement efforts

Both sides have rested their respective cases. Judge Lucy Koh suggested last week that the companies should try one final time to work out a settlement, and the companies attempted to do just that over the weekend. As with all other settlement efforts in the case, the exercise ended in a stalemate, with neither side willing to agree to settlement terms or a further narrowing of the case. A joint filing by both sides confirmed the news.

“The parties have met and conferred about case narrowing, but have not been able to narrow their cases further.”

Closing arguments in the case are set for tomorrow; once completed, the jury will begin its deliberations, with over $2 billion on the line. All eyes will be glued to San Jose in coming days as the patent case of the century comes to a close.

Update: Bloomberg is reporting Samsung CEO Kwon Oh Hyun and Apple CEO Tim Cook will reportedly talk one more time today to determine if a settlement can be reached. We should learn the outcome of the talks, if any, this afternoon.
