Kim Dotcom, the guy behind the famous Megaupload services, is going for the music industry with its upcoming service called Megabox. The soon-to-be-launched website wants to pay artists directly when users stream their music, eliminating the middle man altogether. In the description of the video, Mr. Dotcom said: “This is what they don’t want you to have. Unchaining artists and fans. Megabox is coming soon.”

Launch date wasn’t unveiled but we do know that songs won’t be available only via web browser – iOS and Android apps will be released as well, hopefully earning a spot at Apple AppStore and Google Play. That’s until the industry protests and “kindly” asks the two companies to remove them from their respective services.

It’s a fact that the record industry is broken, making money only for the big boys with many artists struggling to survive. Perhaps Megabox is part of the solution. We’ll see where that goes and in the meantime, here’s Megabox’s teaser video.
