Canadians are set to have a little more choice come mid to late 2009. Well… at least in Ontario and Quebec. A new carrier is entering the game!
As a result of the recent Canadian Wireless Spectrum Auction, carrier BMV Holdings is set to operate under the name ‘Public Mobile’. Nice logo.
BMV ended up spending $52.3 million CAD to purchase the ‘G-block’ spectrum license. This license will reach roughly 19 million people in Ontario and Quebec. Internal goals according to the folks at BMV are to have roughly 2 million customers within the first few years by offering unlimited flat-rate talk and text packages. Awesome. This will be music to the ears of ALL Canadians! The package/plan will go for roughly $40/mth.
Alek Krstajic, Chief Executive Officer of Public Mobile noted:
“I believe everyone has the right to fairly priced, inexpensive wireless phone service. At Public Mobile we want everyone to be able to be part of the wireless revolution without feeling left out because they can’t afford the high costs associated with most Canadian mobile phone companies. If you have something important you need to express right now, or someone you need to talk to right away, Public Mobile wants to help you do just that.”
Sing it Alex, sing it. Can’t wait to have Public Mobile join the frey up here. Too bad they won’t be nation-wide.
