We’ve already told you Huawei is working on a phablet device, one that would rock a super-big 6.1-inch screen. That rumor is now confirmed with Huawei exec Yu Chengdong giving us a rough time frame for the release date. All he had to say is “early 2013,” hinting us we’ll see this monster-phone at either CES in Las Vegas, or Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

At the same time, Mr. Chengdong had a word to say about the new Galaxy Note II, adding that it’s grossly overpriced, and even urging people to avoid buying one. Of course, he added we should wait for Huawei’s own phablet which will be more powerful and cost less. From what we’ve heard before, the Ascend Mate will sport a 1.8GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, the mentioned 6.1-inch 1080p full HD screen and a 4,000 mAh battery.
