Wi-LAN, a company known for its patent trolling, has filed a new lawsuit against Research In Motion in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida. Wi-LAN is suing the Waterloo company because it feels that RIM’s BlackBerry smartphones infringe U.S. Patent No. 6,260,168, which relates to Bluetooth implementation. Devices that supposedly infringe on this patent include the Bold, Torch, Pearl and Storm. Of course, Wi-LAN is seeking a compensation along with the ban of sales in the United States for the BlackBerry phones alleged to have infringed on its patent. No word on what RIM plans to do, but we’ll keep you in the loop.
