Samsung Galaxy Note II users in South Africa got a neat freebie in the form of Garmin navigation. No longer will you have to use mobile data while trying to find some address as maps can be preloaded while you’re in a fast Wi-Fi hotspot. Then, when you need to navigate to some address, simply fire-up your Garmin app (or that’s Navigon – which is owned by Garmin), enter your destination and let your phablet guide you to the spot. No mobile data have to be used along the way except if you want additional information like weather forecast (which requires that you connect to the Internet).
Included in the deal are NAVTEQ-based maps for South Africa, Botswana, Swaziland, Namibia and Lesotho, which all can be viewed in 2D and 3D. Feature wise, you’ll benefit from turn-by-turn voice guidance, address search, points-of-interest recommendations, and so on.
At the end, we can only say you should download Garmin’s app as soon as you can. And we hope something similar will be offered in other parts of the world, as well.
