Samsung is now the top smartphone maker in China, overtaking that position from Nokia. Last year, the Korean company’s market share rose by 5.3% from 2011, while its sales volumes tripled from 10.9 million to 30.6 million units. As I’m writing this, Samsung firmly holds 17.5% of the market.

As for other handset makers, Nokia now holds 7th position, Lenovo 2nd with 13.2% of the market, while Apple is third.

Now if we can tell anything from the start of the year, we can easily envision Samsung staying at the top with Nokia eventually gaining few percentage points in the second half of the year spurred by the sales of its low-cost Windows Phone devices.
