NVIDIA Updates Tegra Roadmap – Logan and Parker on the way

NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang took to the stage today at the GTC conference’s keynote and touched on many things, including some items of interest to mobile users. Of course, we’re mostly interested in the mobile space, so we were pretty excited to see Huang introduce an updated Tegra roadmap.

While we’ve still yet to see a Tegra 4 or Tegra 4i device available in stores, we now have two more code names for upcoming NVIDIA prodcuts to look forward to: Logan and Parker.

Logan is going to kick some serious ass. Not only will Logan be the very first mobile CPU that utilizes NVIDIA’s parallel computing platform Cuda, it will also rock a Kepler GPU. Kepler was made available last year and has been considered one of the best GPUs around, so we’re pretty surprised and excited to see that it will be making its way to mobile so soon. Logan will begin production sometime next year. With the power we’ll be seeing in Logan, it is almost like having Adamantiumin your bones.

Of course, Jen-Hsun wasn’t done with just Logan. We were also given a hint about the next-gen Tegra’s successor already. That CPU would be Parker, which will ship with the ARM-based Denver CPU and Maxwell GPU (GeForce 800 series).

So while we’re still impatiently waiting for NVIDIA to take our money for the Project Shield, we can be assured that there’s even more power to be seen in the future. We have a feeling that things are going to be a bit ridiculous in the coming years, and we can’t wait.
