According to Reuter’s, Google’s new version of its Nexus 7 tablet will be launching in July, with a few changes. The new Nexus 7 will reportedly be touting a higher screen resolution, a thinner bezel and a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor instead of NVIDIA’s Tegra 3. The new version of the Nexus 7 will most likely launch with a price of $199.
We are not exactly sure why Google decided to replace NVIDIA’s Tegra 3 processor with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon, but sources suggest that it has to do with power consumption and pricing. Google is hoping to get more Nexus 7’s in consumer hands, and may cut the price of the new Nexus 7 to $149 after the discontinuation of it’s older model.
Google shipped around 4.6 million Nexus 7 units in the second half of last year, and expects to ship six to eight million of the new Nexus 7 models in the second half of this year. Google has yet to comment officially on the new Nexus 7, but expect to see the new Nexus 7 model popping up later this year, possibly at Google I/O this May.
