ZTE, Huawei increase smartphone shipments

Two of the leading Chinese handset makers, ZTE and Huawei, have both increased their smartphone shipments last year. ZTE on its end has exceeded its own target by more than doubling shipments of smartphones in 2012, helping it offset decreasing sales of feature phones. At the same time, the company has posted positive free cash flow and operating cash flow for the first time in three years.

ZTE generated 15% of its smartphone revenue in 2012 from sales of mid to high-end devices in 2012, and the goal is to grow the proportion to 25-30% this year.

Meanwhile, Huawei’s Consumer division’s global sales revenue reached 48.4 billion CNY, an increase of 8.4% year-on-year. Device shipments totaled 127 million units, including 32 million smartphones – an increase of 60% year-on-year.

Looking ahead to the next five years, Huawei forecasts that it will see compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10%…
