Double Fine, the studio that started the recent surge in crowd funded games, has announced a new Kickstarter campaign for Massive Chalice. The Kickstarter page bills it as being “inspired by classic tactical strategy games like X-COM, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Fire Emblem, as well as ‘Game of Thrones’ array of noble families.”
The brand new property will be helmed by Iron Brigade creator, Brad Muir. Double Fine is seeking $725,000 to fund the development of the “epic, replayable turn-based tactics game where you train generations of heroes to repel a demonic invasion.” At the time of this writing, it’s nearly at $300,ooo with 28 days to go. So it’s looking like another crowd funding slam dunk for Double fine.
Supporters can fund the project at different levels, each with their accompanying perks. Probably the most exciting is the $100 level.

Very cool!
Founded by cult game hero Tim Schafer (Grim Fandango, Psychonauts, the Monkey Island series), Double Fine productions took to the fans last year to fund its upcoming project, Broken Age. Within 24 hours of its announcement, Broken Age’s Kickstarter had surpassed its $400,000 funding goal and had already reached $1 million dollars (closing at $3.3 million). The game is nearing completion and Double Fine has been great about keeping all of its supporters up to date on its progress with exclusive screens, videos and other goodies. Broken Age will release this fall, and its funding and development has provided a model for the current renaissance of crowd funded games.
It looks like Double Fine is already well on track to do it again!
