Today, MetroPCS announced that its customers can now use unlocked GSM devices on their network, which has been solely CDMA up until this point. Because of the recent merger of T-Mobile with MetroPCS, MetroPCS will be transitioning from its CDMA network to T-Mobile’s GSM network. MetroPCS customers in a handful of cities such as Boston, Dallas, Hartford and Las Vegas can now use their unlocked GSM devices on the MetroPCS network, including GSM devices from the AT&T and T-Mobile. The service will support iPhones from AT&T and T-Mobile, as well as the iPhone 5 from Verizon and Sprint.

The switch from CDMA to GSM will continue in other cities over time. To see if your device is compatible on Metro PCS’ GSM network, head over to the Metro PCS website where you will find a tool that will determine this for you.

More details can be found on the Metro PCS website.
