Qualcomm's Paul Jacobs caught wearing an unidentified smart watch

Qualcomm’s chairman and CEO Paul Jacobs was in Silicon Valley last week talking about a broad range of topics at the Computer History Museum. He talked about his career, Moore’s Law, smartphones, tablets and wearable computing.

Regarding tablets, he acknowledged that Qualcomm was late to embrace this market, adding that they now have 40 tablet designs in the works. Windows RT was also mentioned but not as a great example since it “has not turned into a great business” for the company.

At one point during the conversation, Jacobs mentioned a smart watch he was wearing as an example of where mobile technology is going. That, however, was a stunt of sorts, since he was quick to pull down his sleeve so that no one can see the device.

We’ve heard that Qualcomm wants to enter the smart watch business and as I’m writing this, we’re sure its engineers are working round the clock on prototypes and reference designs that will likely be made by Qualcomm’s partners (rather than Qualcomm itself). And since the company’s CEO already has a working prototype (or so we assume), we hope that the day when Qualcomm-based smart watches will be available in your local store is quickly approaching. That said, we expect to be talking about smart watches in the days and weeks to come…
