My fave tech-language site, NetLingo, has got another classic phrase – for something I experience often, but hadn’t been able to put a tech-term to before:
time porn
Popular entertainment, such as TV shows like Cheers, Seinfeld, and Mad About You, where people never seem to have anything to do except hang out. They tease viewers with the forbidden leisure time we all covet but can’t have. Used in an article by Colin McEnroe in the Hartford Courant.
Ha ha ha! Classic! Just HOW MANY of us have had this experience since the likes of Friends taught us that we should buy expensive coffee and hang out?! These days when I frequent one of these establishments, I see one of a few times of people:
- “teenager-kids” playing with their phones – probably watching videos sent to them of their mates beating other kids up (yep, I said it, oooh!)
- “workers” – typing messages out madly on an emailing device named after a certain kind of berry….
- “mates” – calling their mates and telling them they are hanging out at the local cafeteria…[circular argument ad infinitum!]
🙂
