Former Apple CEO John Sculley may be looking into acquiring BlackBerry, Globe and Mail is reporting. The guy who’s infamous for kicking out Steve Jobs from Apple in the ’80s is apparently “exploring a joint bid” for the Canadian smartphone maker.

Needless to say, Sculley refused to comment on this rumor, but he did note that “there’s a lot of future value in Blackberry,” adding that “without experienced people who have run this type of business, and without a strategic plan, it would be really challenging.”

Of course, there are other contenders in the “BlackBerry race,” including the likes of Lenovo, Cisco, Google, as well as the company’s founders. However, the only confirmed bid so far came from Fairfax Financial Holdings, which offered $4.7 billion. Plus, let’s not forget other plans that would potentially split BlackBerry into several parts to maximize the value for shareholders. The saga continues…
