Sony has set ambitious goals for its mobile division. During the fiscal 2015, the Japanese firm hopes to move no less than 80 million smartphones, up from 42 million units expected to be sold by the end of fiscal 2014. For those who need clarification, the fiscal 2014 goes from April 1, 2013 to March 31, 2014, while fiscal 2015 starts on April 1, 2015 and ends on March 31, 2016.
To make this happen, Sony will put in extra efforts in the form of “money and people” in two key markets – U.S. and China. According to a Nikkei report (and brought to our attention by PhoneArena), the company plans to introduce a “broader variety” of smartphones and attract consumers with high-performance cameras and its digital content offering. In other words, we should expect free movies and other content coming preloaded with select Xperia models that will be unveiled later this year. And perhaps a Sony-made Windows Phone device?
In addition, the firm may capitalize on its battery business and eventually launch phones that last longer than those made by competing vendors. These technologies that set Sony “apart from rivals” should apparently play a key role in attracting new customers. We’ll see how that goes…
