Qualcomm is expanding its Vuforia image recognition platform (and team) with technology from the Switzerland-based Kooaba.
The chip maker bought the company without disclosing how much it paid for the benefit. The goal is to make Vuforia even better, and eventually enabling other apps to rely on Qualcomm’s cloud-based image recognition technology.
According to Kooaba’s co-founder Til Quack, the acquisition will have minimal impact on existing customers in the short term, whereas new customers will not accepted. Or they will be routed to Qualcomm’s sales staff; we can’t really tell.
In any case, we’re looking forward to see Qualcomm using its vast resources to make image recognition mainstream and available in as many different devices as possible…
