Marvell is the latest chip maker to join the 64-bit craze with its new Armada Mobile PXA 1928 platform. The SoC consists of four ARM Cortex A53 cores clocked at 1.5GHz, full HD-capable GC5000 GPU and a 5-mode LTE modem that also supports older 2G and 3G standards.
If we can take Marvell’s track-record for anything, this product is heading to China where we’ve seen earlier Armada chips in low-cost LTE devices made by the likes of Yulong Coolpad, Lenovo and Hisense.

The 64-bit Armada Mobile PXA 1928 is the latest addition to our industry-leading single-chip, multi-core mobile processor family,” Marvell co-founder and president Weili Dai said in a statement. “4G-LTE is such a critical technology for the ‘Smart Life and Smart Lifestyle’ vision. I believe that through continued innovation, invention and dedication our talented global engineering teams have yet again raised the technology bar in advancing the mobile industry.”
Complementing the PXA 1928 is the Avastar 88W8887 providing 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, and an FM radio; as well as NFC, GNSS hybrid location processing, integrated power management, a multi-mode, multi-band LTE RF transceiver, audio codec ICs, and an eMMC mobile storage SSD controller.
