Rovio’s New Angry Birds Title Will Be a Turn-Based RPG

Rovio is taking its Angry Birds franchise to a whole new level with the upcoming Angry Birds Epic. The new adventure will take Angry Birds players where they’ve never gone before, tossing them into a medieval themed turn-based role-playing game. I know, crazy right? Sounds awesome to me.

As any nerdy video game fan can attest, RPG’s aren’t for the faint of heart. They require lots of problem solving, tedious “grinding” or leveling up and mazes which can confound and frustrate. What I’m getting at here is that RPG’s aren’t usually the type of game casual gamers play, which is the crowd that mostly plays Angry Birds. It will be interesting to see how many Angry Birds players who have never touched an RPG in their life will like the title. If it does catch on, it could propel RPG franchises more into the mainstream.

Details on Angry Birds Epic are sparse, aside from the release date which puts the arrival of Angry Birds Epic at the end of this week – in Australia and Canada though. Rovio hasn’t mentioned when the game will rollout to the rest of the world, but don’t expect it to take long.

So, an Angry Birds RPG. Are you into it, or do you call bullshit on it? Let us know in the comments.
