While Samsung will be cramming TouchWIZ UI in its Tizen-based smartphones, Intel will have something different. The chip-maker’s Obsidian UI will look a bit different from the software we’ve seen from major vendors. The visible distinction comes in the form of diamond-shaped widgets, icons and even notifications. In addition, Obsidian will also use a lot to panels that overlay part of the screen instead of popups or floating apps. It sounds crazy, but it looks kinda novel, though we’ll have to try it out before coming to any conclusion.

Of course, this may not be the final version of the software, and as far as we (don’t) know, it may never end-up in any device. Intel has its own reference smartphone codenamed Josephine, but at this point it’s unclear whether it, or some similar device, will ever enter the mass-production phase. We’re certainly hoping that will be the case, but you never know.

Anyhow, here’s a short clip demoing Obsidian UI in action. The video quality isn’t really amazing, but you should get an idea what to expect.

So do you like it?
