Android 4.4 KitKat keeps rising while Gingerbread keeps losing its market share, according to the latest figures released by Google.
Looking at all devices accessing the Google Play Store, KitKat added 3.2% of new users on top of last month’s 5.3% share. This is largely due to updates released by Samsung for their Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 devices.
Jelly Bean 4.2 also grew slightly, gaining 0.7% share, whereas all other platform versions fell. If everything “goes as planned,” Android versions prior to Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) should account for less than 10% before the end of the year.
Another rising capability among the Android community is OpenGL ES 3.0 support, which keeps steadily growing, allowing more mobile users to enjoy better 3D games on their phones.
Going forward, we expect the further rise of KitKat with pretty much all vendors launching updates for their Jelly Bean phones and tablets.
