Roku is launching a screen mirroring feature for a select number of Windows 8.1 and Android devices, allowing users to beam content from their mobile devices (and Windows 8.1 PCs) to a TV via the Roku 3 or Roku Streaming Stick (HDMI Version).
Once you turn on mirroring for your phone, tablet or laptop, you can pair it compatible Roku player and whatever you see on your mobile device is exactly what will be displayed on your TV. The beta release of the screen mirroring feature is already rolling out to Roku customers and is expected to be available to all users within the next few weeks.
Screen mirroring is just the latest Roku screen sharing feature; another capability, Play On Roku, within the Roku mobile app makes it easy to send music, photos and videos saved on your smartphone or tablet to a TV through any Roku player. In addition, you can use the mobile apps from Netflix and YouTube to browse and then launch videos from a smartphone or tablet straight to your TV with the Roku 3 and Roku Streaming Stick.
Roku’s screen mirroring should work on most Windows 8.1 and Android devices; if you’re not sure whether your hardware will sing along the new capability, feel free to consult this list of supported devices. Hopefully, you’ll find your gadget(s) there. 😉
