Archos is entering (PDF announcement) the nascent VR glass marker with a product of its own. Unlike Samsung’s Gear VR and Carl Zeiss’s glasses, the ARCHOS Video Player is made for the masses. It will have a rock bottom price of just $29.99, making it an easy sell even for those who considered creating their own glasses with Google’s Cardboard scheme.
Archos says that its product works best with smartphones boasting a 5-inch screen and quad-core processor, as well as motion sensors such as an accelerometer and a gyroscope. Nevertheless, it should also be able to accommodate slightly bigger devices (and smaller ones) whether they run Android, iOS or Windows Phone.
The company also claims that future owners will be able to benefit from more than 100 VR app, most of which — we presume — were made for Google Cardboard.
Speaking of which (Google Cardboard), you can get assembled Cardboard units from china for around $10, whereas only $20 more gets you a more decent device, made out of plastic. I say Archos is onto something with goggles like these; what do you think?
