Huawei’s wide non-foldable phone could arrive sooner than anyone expected

Forget the foldables for a second. Huawei is apparently working on something different, a wide, flat, non-foldable phone, and it could show up a lot sooner than people were expecting. That’s not a small detail. Huawei has been so associated with foldable form factors lately that a wide slab-style device feels almost surprising coming from them.

According to Huawei Central, leaks have started circulating on Chinese social media hinting at an imminent launch. The chatter suggests the device could hit the market as early as next month, which would make it part of Huawei’s busy September lineup. The brand is reportedly preparing multiple new handsets for that window, and this wide phone is one of the more intriguing entries in that batch.

So why does a wide non-foldable phone matter right now? Because the form factor is having a genuine moment. Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Edge turned heads earlier this year with its slim, wide profile. Other brands are clearly watching that reaction closely. A wide phone gives you more screen real estate without the hinge, the extra thickness, or the price premium that comes with a foldable. It’s a middle ground that a lot of consumers actually want.

Huawei jumping into this space makes a lot of sense strategically. The company has been rebuilding its smartphone lineup aggressively since the worst of its chip supply issues, and it needs products that can generate buzz and compete on design, not just specs. A wide, premium slab could do exactly that, especially in the Chinese market where Huawei still has serious brand loyalty.

The timing is also notable. September is historically a huge month for phone launches globally, with Apple typically dominating the conversation. Huawei dropping something visually distinct right in that window is a deliberate move to stay relevant in the news cycle. Whether it works depends entirely on what the phone actually delivers in terms of display quality, performance, and camera output.

Details on specs are still thin at this point. What we know is the form factor, wide and non-foldable, and the rough launch window. But even that much is enough to put this on the radar. If Huawei gets the screen-to-body ratio right and pairs it with capable hardware, this could be one of the more interesting Android-adjacent phones of the second half of 2025.

Still, it’s worth staying grounded. Huawei has teased things before that took longer to materialize than expected. And without Google services, its international appeal stays limited no matter how good the hardware looks. But for fans of bold phone design, and for anyone watching how the wide-phone trend plays out across the industry, this one is worth keeping a close eye on.
