Sony Ericsson Aino struck down by software woes also

What is going on? Is there some kind of mobile device software sickness happening at Sony Ericsson? First, they pull their premier device, the Satio, due to ‘software issues’ (that’s deliberately vague methinks), and now it’s little brother, the Aino gets pulled too!

The same reasoning is being given for the recall of the Aino from shelves, in that there are software glitches – the nature of which is again pretty unclear. Having trawled the InterWeb looking for more information, it would appear that for both then Satio and Aino there is general malaise in the software, where all manner of actions, key presses, and so on can cause lock-ups, or resets.

Now, the handsets being recalled is bad enough, but let’s look at the bigger picture – these are THE two handsets that Sony Ericsson has out this Christmas, addressing key market segments (touchscreen, hi-res camera, music) – and without those on the shelves, SE are going to have a rotten time of it.

It’s certainly not clear to me at this point what the solution will be, but I’d suggest if they are going to do something before Christmas, then they really don’t have very long to do it. Personally I hope SE does manage to resolve these issues, as historically at least, they made some excellent devices (anyone remember the K800i?).

If you do feel like checking out the Aino, you can look at Sony Ericsson’s Marketing website here.
