The BlackBerry Tour 9650 is supposedly en route to Verizon Wireless and Sprint with a new optical trackpad and WiFi in tow, but it’s going to be a little while longer before the updated Tour officially launches. Following spy pics and feature leaks, the latest word on the street has the BlackBerry Tour 9650 being delayed due to issues with its software.
According to RIM insiders, Mobility Site is reporting that some Verizon stores did receive BlackBerry Tour 9650 units. Those units were apparently sent back for “updates,” and won’t be making a comeback to Big Red until the BlackBerry 9650 gets official with BlackBerry OS 5.0. On the Sprint side of things, we’re hearing that Big Yellow’s 9650 units are having some sort of WiFi issue that Sprint is currently ironing out.
Details are slim at this point, but it seems the BlackBerry 9650 won’t be making an appearance in the US until some software bugs get squashed. As far as what model name we’ll be using for the 9650, BlackBerry is supposedly passing on the “Tour 2” moniker in favor of calling it the BlackBerry Bold 9650. Right, that’s not at all confusing.
