Verizon Palm Pre Plus and Pixi Plus get minor webOS update (webOS 1.4.1.1)

If you’re like us, you’re probably a little distracted by HP’s late-Wednesday announcement that the company will be buying Palm for a cool $1.2 billion dollars. So distracted, in fact, that you may not have noticed that Verizon is pushing out an update for your Verizon Palm Pre Plus or Palm Pixi Plus. The webOS 1.4.1.1 isn’t anything significant – and certainly has nothing to do with HP’s acquisition – but it should make your webOS phone work a bit better.

Verizon’s webOS 1.4.1.1 update is basically a bundle of bug fixes. You get better Bluetooth support with better battery life, more reliable 3G data connection, Touchstone charger detection (puts display into standby mode upon charging), better contact picture cropping, and the LCD reset problem has been fixed. The update also brings with it more features. You now get more pinch-to-zoom (multitouch) functionality in more applications, forward flick gesture works in the web browser, less laggy camera shutter sound, and keyboard input is more accurate.

The update should be automatically downloaded to your smartphone over the next few days. Give it time and all will be taken care of. Or, you know, you could just keep frantically hitting “update” until Verizon pushes the update in your direction. Ah, the joy of OTA updates.
