Mobile payment Corduro gets investment from Google

We don’t have much information but Google’s investment arm is pumping an undisclosed amount into the mobile payment startup Corduro.

The company specializes in creating a a mobile payment platform that should enable small businesses to take credit card payments on the go. Its sparse site also says it can accept recurring payments and is best utilized by businesses that already have a merchant account. Google Ventures’ investment could just be it playing safe but I wouldn’t be too surprised to eventually see some strong mobile payment features implemented in Android.

The move from Google Ventures shows the potential of mobile payments, as it hopefully shouldn’t be too long until we’re all using our handsets like credit cards. We’re already seeing a host of players enter this space but it’s going to take something big for this to take off in the United States. It may take something crazy like the next iPhone to really get it going.
