Virgin Mobile nabs new phones, will intro cheap unlimited plans

Looks like Virgin Mobile (which is now owned by Sprint) is aggressively pursuing the texting crowd as it is rumored to be launching some cheap plans that include unlimited texts, e-mails and data.

The lowest package will reportedly cost $25 per month for the unlimited stuff above and 300 minutes of talk time. You can also pay $40 for 1,200 minutes and unlimited messaging and data, or just plop down $60 a month for unlimited everything. If you’re a text-happy person (Virgin Mobile’s bread and butter) you can probably get away with the lowest-tier plan without a problem.

Who cares about the plans if the phones suck though, right? Well, Phone Arena said the prepaid carrier will soon be offering the Kyocera Loft for $70, the LG Rumor Touch for $150 and the BlackBerry Curve 8530 for $300. Remember, those prices mean you’ll be able to own the phone outright but the CDMA nature of the networks mean you won’t be able to take that phone to other carriers easily. You definitely can’t use these on AT&T or T-Mobile, and I’d be very surprised if Verizon would be cool and let you activate these devices on its network.
