The may be other Android phones out there with slide-out QWERTY keyboards, but the T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide will be the first such Android smartphone to hit the T-Mobile network. The myTouch Slide goes live next month, but we’ve already gotten a chance to put our fingerprints all over the Slide’s glossy finish and show you what it looks like in real life.
The T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide isn’t just another Android phone. It’s Android 2.1 OS is customized with all kinds of tweaks that really make a difference in everyday usability. Then there’s the ample display, the spring-loaded keyboard, and the impressive camera to help make the Slide feel more expensive than its price tag might suggest. Throw in the nifty retail package that doubles as a hard case for the myTouch 3G Slide, and you’ve got a surefire hit for T-Mobile.
Android 2.1 OS runs the show with the Slide, but it’s chock full of tweaks to the UI. The drag-down notification bar has a task manager that shows you how many and which apps are currently running in the background. There’s also the “Genius Buttons” that makes it easy to use your voice to dictate text messages and emails as well as search the web. Add to that the Faves Gallery that puts your myFaves contacts into a sort of contact-cloud and the MyModes feature that switches the Android homescreen to fit your needs from home, gym, office, vacation, etc., and you’ve got one seriously capable Android 2.1 phone.
The Slide launches June 2 for $149.99 on-contract with T-Mobile.
