Qualcomm unveiled the addition of a new product supporting CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Rev. B to its roadmap. The new Mobile Station Modem (MSM) MSM7850 chipset is the industry’s first device solution for EV-DO Rev. B, and is set to deliver highly advanced capabilities for next-gen data and multimedia services, at downlink data speeds of 9.3 Mbps over the 5 MHz spectrum.
The new device chipset provides support for EV-DO Rev. B with full backward compatibility, and should provide manufacturers with a highly integrated, flexible solution to deliver the capabilities of Rev. B on consumer products. A software upgrade release to enable Qualcomm’s Cell Site Modem (CSM) CSM6800 solution to support multi-carrier EV-DO Rev. B will be available by the end of Q1 2007.
