Who is going to make a guide on flashing your branded N95 to unlocked firmware?

I’m looking at you Mark. Your N73 guide was wildly popular. This phone hasn’t even been out for 1 week yet and I just got 2 emails asking me how I would flash an Orange & O2 branded N95 to regular firmware.

Is anyone working on such a guide? Feel free to email me when you’re done. I’ll gladly post it!

No guide needed, it’s the exact same process, only you’d need the unbranded product code for the N95 (which should also be readily available). It works with any BB5 device and NSS and NSU.

  • Stefan Constantinescu

Now we just need someone to cough up the code.

the updated version 10.0.018 is not on NSU yet with the product codes. I can write the guide on how to do it but since I don’t have the N95 yet, I don’t want to be the reason for people breaking their new phones before I try it out myself first.

When I get the phone, I will play with the old firmware first so that I can compare it with the new one.

The funny thing about product codes is if you’re not careful, your phone could have a different keyboard layout when you’re done flashing. I’ve noticed that just getting some E61 units flashed.

Also, Stefan, you have a typo in your headline. You can’t flash a branded handset to an unlocked firmware. There’s no such thing as “locked” or “unlocked” firmware. There’s branded/unbranded firmware, and there’s devices that are locked/unlocked.

Branding has to do with internal (and external, sometimes) menus and settings and whatnot. Locking is a software setting within the device that tell it what SIM cards to accept and what SIM cards to not accept.

    Hello,

Actually is hard to unlock a new device; is taking so many headaches for people to try to unlock for example this N95 or the N73, I have a friend that is still trying to unlock his E62 without success. If you flash your simlocked device, you will get an unbranded software but the lock will be still there.

So unbranding an N95 doesn’t unlock it, right?

Oops. I see the answer was posted as I was asking it. Thanks/sorry!
