BlackBerry 8820 to cost $299 on AT&T and be available in August

The BlackBerry 8820 we wrote about earlier is actually coming out sooner than we expected. It might be on store shelves by the first week of August at only $299; contract of course. With UMA support, A2DP and microSDHC expansion up to 32GB it looks like RIM is starting to care about multimedia.

Should the rest of the vendors worry? Most people I see with a BlackBerry have a second phone for everything else. All RIM needs is a better browser and media player and they can easily compete with the various Windows Mobile and S60 devices out there.

This will be interesting to watch.
