The iPhone isn’t exactly an enterprise device, that much is truth. But, that doesn’t stop throngs of businesspeople from insisting that their IT department support their new-fangled iPhone.

Avaya’s taken heed and has plans to bring their Avaya one-X Mobile platform to the iPhone. Support for the year’s hottest handset is expected to come in Q1 2008, and will essentially turn your iPhone into another endpoint on the corporate network – by “endpoint on the corporate network” we mean that the all calls to the office phone will be routed to the iPhone when you’re out of the office.

iPhone gets Avaya one-X Mobile support in Q1 2008

The Avaya one-X Mobile interface will allow iPhone users to access their visual voicemail, corporate directories, VIP lists, and allow incoming and outgoing voice calls under your office phone-number ID – all through an “enterprise-secure” connection.  Check out this flash-based demo to get an idea of how Avaya’s one-X Mobile will work on the iPhone.

Now, all we need is Apple-sanctioned ActiveSync and MS Exchange Server support. MacWorldExpo? February? We’ll see.
