In order to say competitive Nokia is closing their German plant in Bochum and laying off up to 2300 people. It will be cheaper to do the same work in Romania.
“We are moving production to existing plants, mainly in Romania, which will start during the first quarter.” – Nokia Spokeswoman Arja Suominen
In other news, it looks as if the Romanian plant will open on February 11th and at full capacity will make 5 mobile phones per second. Having never visited a Nokia factory, can any employee reading this sneak me into the Salo facility for a tour?
