Well, today is the day. Mobile World Congress will be kicking off in a few hours and I’m already up and at it. Actually, I’m still up – I couldn’t sleep. Knowing that the world’s latest and greatest handsets are just a few hours away, I’m jittery with anticipation.
Last night Sony Ericsson bowed their XPERIA X1 Windows Mobile-based superphone at their pre-MWC event. The Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 certainly doesn’t disappoint in the “looks” department and we’re hearing that HTC had a lot to do with that. In fact, HTC may have had everything to do with it. The once-ODM seems to have jumped back in the game and allegedly designed this sleek, QWERTY-toting handset for the Japanese/Swedish handset-team.

As far as “feel” is concerned, we’ll just have to wait until we can get our sweaty hands on the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 to make any conclusions. The Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 boasts a 3-inch touchscreen, slide-out QWERTY keyboard, touch-sensitive trackball, and it’s all powered by the familiar Windows Mobile 6.0 Professional OS. We would have loved to play with this superphone ourselves, but alas, only SE employees were so lucky. If this thing handles itself anywhere near as good as it looks, Sony Ericsson’s got a real winner on their hands.
