Dr. Macenstein tipped me off to this one, and it’s worth noting here. All iPhone users that want a nice little New Years’ gift will love this! MetaTools have decided to offer up their game ‘MetaSquares’ absolutely free via the App Store for a limited time only. No telling how long the game will be available for free, but I suspect it won’t be much longer than New Years’ Day. So go ahead and pick it up here (iTunes Link Alert!).

MetaSquares is a puzzle app that puts you head-to-head against the computer. Place your pieces on the board one at a time, while trying to make square shapes. The larger the size of square you can complete, the more points you will get. Squares can be formed using horizontal and vertical lines… and diagonal lines. Score 150 points before the computer does, and have at least a 15 point margin for a complete victory. You can get an idea of how it’s played by the screenshot I’ve included. Pretty self-explanitory.

Overall, MetaSquares is actually an enjoyable and well developed game that I highly recommend. Again, if you’d like to check it out hit it up in the App Store while it’s free!!

This game used to be a web-app with the exact same graphics. I loved to play it then and so I will love to download it as a free app.
