Motorola is out with three new completely different handsets. Let’s quickly go through each one of the devices announced:
- First comes the Moto Renew W233, which is reportedly the first phone made from recycled water bottles, and is therefore 20% cheaper to manufacture. With a carbon neutral footprint, this candybar is designed for true eco fanatics who are willing to use such an ugly phone on a daily basis in order to make a world a better place (this is NOT to say I’m against sustainable growth — quite the contrary). As for the specs, the Renew W233 is an entry-level device, boasting a dual-band (850/1900 Mhz) GSM/EDGE radio, CrystalTalk audio technology, microSD card slot, and a battery which provides users with up to 9 hours of talk time. Renew will first be available at T-Mobile USA in Q1 2009.
- Then there’s Tundra VA76r, a mil-spec ruggedized clamshell that is bound for AT&T’s network. Features include push-to-talk, CrystalTalk Plus audio enhancement technology that uses a second microphone to filter out and reduce background noise, quad-band GSM/EDGE along with dual-band 850/1900 3G (HSDPA) radio, stereo Bluetooth support, 2 megapixel camera, aGPS, and a microSD memory card slot. It’s also worth noting that the Tundra VA76r uses Moto’s own MOTOMAGX Linux-based platform. AT&T will start selling the device for $199.99 after a $50 mail-in-rebate and with a contract starting from January 13th.
- Finally, the SURF A3100 stands from the other two devices with its brain power. It’s a Windows Mobile 6.1-powered smartphone with a brand new user interface developed by Motorola. Specs wise, it comes with a 2.8-inch touchscreen, quad-band GSM/EDGE and tri-band 3G (HSDPA up to 7.2Mbps) radios, 3 megapixel camera, secondary VGA camera for video calls, Bluetooth, WiFi, aGPS, and a microSD memory card slot. MOTOSURF A3100 will be available in multiple regions beginning in Q1 2009, including Asia and Latin America.
